The most wonderful time of the year

November 24th, 2011 at 10:17 pm by under General Talk, The Rhode Show

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

As the food-fest winds down, and the food coma wears off, I know my mind immediately looks forward to holiday shopping. Door buster sales have their place, but I’m also a huge fan of little local shops to buy my presents.  I wanted to share a few of my favorites in case there’s anyone else out there like me.

My first stop is ususally Oop.  It’s an old favorite for most Rhode Islanders, since it’s such a great place to find gifts that are not only unique but are often made by Rhode Islanders for Rhode Islanders.  If you’re afraid everything in there is too pricey, I dare you to check out their Cheap Wall art!  Quirky-cool prints mounted on wood – I have them all over my apartment (my favorite, a picture of Shakespeare’s Globe).  I also like to show off my state pride with these guys:

I choose a different mug depending on my mood :)

Another favorite store for gifts is Frog and Toad, on Hope street.  Similar to Oop, but a little less slick (something I like about).  They have tons of amazing little stocking stuffers!

When I’m up for a little jaunt I head to Tiverton Four Corners, which has tons of amazing shops for anything you need – my personal favorite is Roseberry-Winn Pottery. They have really beautiful hand-made pottery – mugs, vases, bowls, whatever you may want!  Their stuff isn’t too frilly, either, so it’s always a good stand-by for the men in my life.

If you’re a pet-lover (as I am) you should head to Bone Appetit Dog Bakery, on Main Street in East Greenwich.  They not only have treats for your four-legged friends’ holiday, but they also do portraits of you and your pets!

Another really fun gift shop is Different Drummer, in Wickford, RI.  Not only do they have whimsical gifts, but they also have a huge Christmas section – so you can get your decorations and your presents all in one stop!

I hope I’ve helped get you into the holiday spirit, and given you some ideas!  I’m off to decorate ;)

Happy shopping, everyone!

What are you drinkin’?

This week the top 5 have had a break from our field assignments for some in-studio fun!  Our first stop?  Playing dress-up (what girl doesn’t love that?).

We met with the Rhode Show’s amazing stylist, Jill Marinelli, of JM Stylist and makeup artist, Kirsten Brusse, from Jolie Visage to learn some tips and tricks on how to look our best in front of the camera.  There is a lot to learn, and the whole process made me excited to go home and start experimenting!  I can’t deny that I love to play with clothes and make-up.  During our lesson in camera makeup, I got to be the test-model for how to apply blush – so I get to look great all day, and it helped me look my best for our next stop – Dunkin Donuts!

We headed to  the Dunkin Donuts on Eddy Street to talk about our favorite drinks and snacks!

That’s a picture of me with Adam, the manager at the Eddy Street Dunkin Donuts, who makes the most delicious Mint Hot Chocolate around!  If you want extra whip, he’s your man.  Tera also promises that his Egg-white wrap is the best she’s tasted – clearly Adam has the magic touch!

Be sure to stop in to see Adam - and, if you want to know what I’m drinkin, I’ll tell you on the Rhode Show on December 5!

Have a happy, safe, and fun-filled Thanksgiving, everyone!

A little more about me (A little late to the game)

November 19th, 2011 at 10:05 am by under General Talk, The Rhode Show

Happy Saturday, everyone!

Now that the competition is well underway, and two minutes really isn’t a lot of time, I wanted to share some more facts about me, some random, some not – kind of like how I live my life :)

In case you forgot, this is me

I spent four long, cold winters at Syracuse University, which will toughen up even the softest souls

This is the hall of languages, which is also the Addams Family house, fun fact!

I have a crazy jungle cat named Marlowe

The silly little dog you saw in my bio video is Apollo, he belongs to my parents and he’s always willing to let me embarrass him for the sake of a laugh.

My family and friends are the most important things in my life.  I tell my mom, my sister, and my best friend everything (including some things they’d probably rather not know).

I spend as much time as possible laughing, often at myself!

I’ve cried real tears when my sports teams have lost important games…ex.  The Red Sox in 2011, The Patriots in 2008, etc.

I sing a lot – and I loooove Karaoke

.

(My favorite Karaoke song, Son of a Preacher Man)

Music is poetry to me – it expresses things I wish I could say

The two celebrities I would most like to meet are Bill Murray and Ellen DeGeneres.

I am an ace at Jeopardy – and if you do trivia nights, you want me on your team :)

I’m a movie junkie, my favorite = Casablanca

I collect quotes – if you’ve got some good ones for me, I’m always up for a swap!

I travel AS MUCH as possible!  So far my favorite destinations have been Laos, New Zealand, and Florence, Italy.

I once got to play with baby tiger cubs – unforgettable

(the guy in this picture is one of my best friends, Gordon).

My favorite food is chocolate cake – my favorite chocolate cake is from Gregg’s

I always have a book with me

I’m a Taurus – Stubborn, dedicated, and loyal to a fault (sometimes almost too loyal)

In high school I competed representing RI in the national Academic Decathlon competition, and I won a gold medal – so I guess that makes me kind of a nerd

Someday I want to run a marathon (my first choice, the Newport Marathon, of course!  It’s beautiful by the water, it’s not too hilly, and it’s one of the 10 best marathons in the country!)- I’m a long way off, though…

I consider myself a professional shopper (Zuzu’s for special occasions, Second Time Around for great finds, Oop for gifts, I could, and will, go on and on…) and a semi-pro eater – although I can’t even begin to list my favorite restaurants here – RI is one of the best states to eat in!

This Pepsi-wielding Otter always makes me laugh

And these words are how I  try to live my life:

Meeting Street

November 16th, 2011 at 9:00 pm by under General Talk, The Rhode Show

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to catch up with all of you after my second assignment!  For assignment 2 we were all given different charities/organizations to visit!  I was incredibly lucky because I got to go to Meeting Street!

For those of you who don’t know, Meeting Street is a school that helps both regularly developing and disabled children.  It is one of the greatest places I have ever been!  All the students were having so much fun, and, not only did I get to interview them, they made sure I didn’t miss anyone!

I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard or had so much fun!

Here’s just one photo from my visit

to see a few more you can check out the Rhode Show’s facebook page!  And be sure to watch the finished segment on my trip to meeting street!  It will air on Monday, November 28th from 8-9 on The Rhode Show!

Hey everyone!

I’m getting really anxious for my first assignment to air on Monday!  I keep thinking of new things now that it’s over!  Isn’t that the worst?

I wanted to share a quick photo from filming

That’s me and the Narragansett mascot, Tallboy, sharing the love!

I’m off to work on my second assignment, headed to Meeting Street on Monday where I get to hang out with a bunch of kids!  Rough life :)

Till next time!
