One More Day!!

The Anticipation is killing me (as you can tell from my almost pained expression ;) )!!!!!!

I am so excited for our jam-packed day tomorrow – and so glad that it’s so busy because I’m sure it will make the time fly!

I hope everyone tunes in tomorrow morning to watch us get ready for our Toys for Tots drive, and I hope as many of you as can will come visit us at Cardi’s on Route 2 in West Warwick from 12-1pm!  We’d love to meet you and we’d love your support in this fantastic toy-drive!  I dunno about you, but I had a blast toy shopping today!

I am so grateful for the last month.  I have gotten to live my dream – and it has been as exciting as I always imagined it would be.  Thank you to everyone who tunes into the show for loving it, and an extra special thanks to everyone at The Rhode Show for being so fun, enthuiastic, and supportive – and for believing in me!!! :)   Now I’m just hoping it doesn’t have to end!

I’ll see you tomorrow afternoon – and then, tomorrow night, I know you’ll all tune in at 7:30 to Fox Providence or Foxprovidence.com, to find out who will be your next Co-host!

The Moment We’ve Been Waiting For!

December 10th, 2011 at 8:33 am by under Entertainment, General Talk, The Rhode Show

Monday night at 7:30 is the big finale – one of us will be announced the next star of the Rhode Show!

But, before that happens, we have a Monday jam-packed with tons of fun and amazing events – and a chance to meet more Rhode Show fans :)

First off, we get to have another live appearance on The Rhode Show!  This time, all 5 of us will show off our poise and charisma together, as we’ll be airing live from Cardi’s on Rte. 2 in Warwick!.  We’ll be there for the fantastic Toys For Tots drive that both Cardi’s and The Rhode Show take part in every year!  We’ll each have our own toy donation bin, and our goal is to get them filled up so that everyone can have a very merry Christmas!

We’ll be at Cardi’s from 12-1 pm, and I invite anyone who wants to come by, meet the 5, and get into the Christmas spirit to come and consider bringing a toy!  This is such a wonderful organization and a wonderful opportunity to help out – what could be better?  We hope to see as many smiling faces as we can, so please consider coming out to support Toys for Tots!

Next stop for the top 5?  Studio B salon at Garden City, in Cranston!  To get ready for our big night, we’re all getting makeovers!  I absolutely love getting my hair and makeup done, and I know the girls at Studio B will make us look flawless – I can’t wait to get all glammed up for the big reveal!

After that, there’s just one stop left on our top 5 journey -  The announcement party!  I am so excited (and so, so nervous) for this moment!  We have all worked very hard to get to this point, and the night will be so exciting, no matter what!  I can’t wait to spend a final evening with all of the girls together, and, of course, I can’t wait to hear who gets the job!

We’ll be arriving at Jacky’s Waterplace, for drinks, sushi, a party, and our big announcement!

I’ve worked hard for this moment, and I can’t wait to enjoy it!  I’m bringing my parents along for support (since they’ve been supporting me my whole life and have helped me so much along this journey)!  It will be a very exciting night!  The hardest thing now is just getting through what I’m sure will be a very long weekend!

I hope to see as many people as I can on Monday afternoon for the Toys for Tots drive at Cardi’s – it’s a great event and a great chance to give back!  Then I hope you all tune into Fox at 7:30 pm on Monday night – so that you can find out the minute we do who will be the next star of the Rhode Show!!!

Mice Skating!!

December 7th, 2011 at 12:04 pm by under General Talk, The Rhode Show

What a fun day!  I’m taking a little break from my holiday posts to talk about our top 5 adventures!!

Today we got to skate with Mickey and Minnie mouse!  The lovely pair are in town for their new show Mickey and Minnie’s Magical Journey, and they decided to stop by and show us a few moves!

Between skating backwards, spinning, and gliding on one foot – I feel like I had quite the lesson!  Minnie is cute as a button, she had me smiling from ear to ear, and Mickey is quite the charmer ;)

There were also some huge fans of the mice who took a break from hockey practice to say hello!  They were priceless, let me tell you!

I certainly had a great morning, I’m sure the other ladies would agree!  We were even graceful – not a single one of us fell down!

I hope you’ll all be able to see Mickey and Minnie in action when they’re here for their show:  December 28-January 1

I promise it will be well worth it!!

Till next time

A Few Favorites

December 6th, 2011 at 12:31 pm by under General Talk, The Rhode Show

Getting ready for my stocking a few years ago!

I hope everyone got to watch Tera host this morning!  Congrats to her – I hope she had a blast!

As for me, I’ve been working on my self-assigned task, and here are a few favorite Christmas movies I came up with!

When I asked people their favorite holiday movie, “Elf” came up again and again!  It’s really become a family classic for the next generation!  I know my friends can’t get enough – what about you?

Forget “new classic”  The Grinch is just a classic!  My sister and I used to reenact Sam and the Grinch sledding down the hill to steal Christmas from the whos – and my dad’s favorite christmas song is Dahoo Dores – who doesn’t remember loving this one growing up?

Another newer favorite – and one of my personal favorites - is “Love, Actually”.  We were talking about this movie before I hosted yesterday morning, and it seemed to be a favorite around the station too!  It’s sweet, a little sappy, and full of real characters.  What’s not to love?

“The year without a Santa Clause” was a huge favorite for tons of people growing up, myself included!  Personal favorites of mine?  Snow Meiser and Heat Miser, of course!

Finally, another newer favorite, “A Christmas Story”  – I’ve always found this movie to be a little dark – but tons of people seem to agree – watching it 24 hours a day gets them in the holiday spirit!

Those were the top 5 I got together from suggestions given to me – personally a few of my favorites weren’t on the list.  I don’t think anything compares to one of the most classic movies “It’s a Wonderful Life”, and as for newer ones, I’m pretty partial to “Home Alone” – I also have a soft-spot for Charlie Brown’s tiny Christmas tree.

What do you guys think?  Tomorrow, favorite Christmas traditions!

Till then
<3 Sarah

The Fun Doesn’t Stop

December 5th, 2011 at 11:17 am by under General Talk, The Rhode Show

All the ladies with a very happy Slick Nick!

What a day!  I can’t believe my time on the couch for the contest has come and gone, but I’ll tell you, it was AMAZING!  I feel like I’m in a dream – that was literally the greatest hour of my life (also probably the fastest hour of my life).  Everything I’ve gotten to do over the last month has been magical and I wouldn’t trade this chance for anything!  I hope you all thought I was the hostess with the mostess – I know I had an absolute blast!  I can’t wait to cheer on my fellow 5, I wish them all the best of luck!

Here I am at Cat Country 98.1 - bright and early!!

As promised, I’m back to the blogging board :)

I figured, even though my official SFAS assignments are done for now, that doesn’t mean I can’t challenge myself to get a scoop!  Over the last month or so you viewers have been getting to know us, but I want to get to know you guys better – so, for the next few days, I’m going to poll the faithful Rhode Show followers, as well as some of my own friends, to find out some of your favorite things.

Since it ’tis the season – I wanted to go with a holiday theme, and I decided to start with some favorite things to do around here to get you into the holiday spirit! I hope you all saw Michaela’s piece on The Santa Run, happening this Saturday morning in New Bedford!  I asked people what some of their other favorites are, and here’s what they had to say!

A huge favorite for Rhode Islanders is Trinity Rep’s “A Christmas Carol”.  I know growing up in Rhode Island I used to go on a school field trip to see the show every year!  Personally I think it gets better and better, and it seems you guys agree!

Another ‘fan favorite’ performance is Festival Ballet’s “The Nutcracker”, which is going on this weekend at PPAC!  I have to admit, I am biased when it comes to this performance, as I danced with Festival Ballet for many years growing up!  They are such a great company, and the show is beautiful and fun for everyone year after year!

Something else people told me they love to do this time of year is an event the Top 5 get to partake in on Wednesday morning – Ice Skating!  Even if you’re a klutz, it’s tons of fun to slip and slide around the ice!  It’s a great date, a great family outing, and a great way to get some exercise!  One of the perks of going at Kennedy Plaza is, of course, the lovely view of downtown providence!

Lots of people suggested the Roger Williams Park Zoo to me!  Sadly, Santa already made his trips to the zoo this year (I really hope some of you got a chance to see him last weekend!) but it doesn’t mean the zoo isn’t a great place to visit this time of year!  There are candy-canes and wintery wonderlands set up all over the park – and, here’s a sneaky little secret, the animals are a lot more social when the weather is a little cooler, even they can’t deny the Christmas spirit!

One more bit of holiday fun around the corner – this one I didn’t even know about until people started telling me – is typically a summer favorite.  The city announced that on December 16th they’re doing a partial waterfire!  I don’t know if we’ll have any snow  – but I’m sure the river will look beautiful lit up on a Wintery night – I can’t think of a better reason to go out and enjoy the  atmosphere!  Providence has always reminded me of a Charles Dickens novel in the winter!

Those are just a few  ideas I got from you guys!  Now I want to hear even more!  What are your favorite things to do in RI during the holiday season!  And tomorrow, I want to write about favorite movies you watch this time of year, so fill me in on those as well!  Leave me some comments and messages, because this inquiring mind wants to know!!!!!

T – 24 Hours!!!!

December 4th, 2011 at 8:00 am by under General Talk, The Rhode Show

IN 24 HOURS I HOST THE RHODE SHOW!!!!!

That’s my “I’m so excited I can hardly contain myself” face!

The nerves are definitely starting to set in a little bit – but I’m working with this adrenaline rush and going with the flow!  I am ready for the couch – and I hope the couch is ready for me!  I’m going to savor every last minute of my hour (especially the ‘food’ part – but that’s a given, of course).  Hopefully I’ll make you laugh, make you cry (in a good way!), and leave you wanting more (a year’s worth of more, to be exact) ;)

This top 5 journey has truly been the most incredible experience of my life.  Words cannot describe how grateful and honored I am to have been given this chance!  The fact that everyone here at the Rhode Show has believed in me has been such a gift – and I really hope I’ve made them proud.

The support I’ve gotten, not only from friends and family, but from people I have never met, has been incredible – and, no matter what, every moment of the last two months will be a moment I will treasure for the rest of my life.

I am also honored to be sharing this incredible journey with four other spectacular women

You ladies are fantastic!  I’m so happy to have met you, and I hope you’ve all enjoyed this experience as much as I have!

Even though I’m first up to host on Monday, don’t think you’ve seen the last of me in this contest – I’ll still be blogging up a storm, and I’m planning to get you all involved, too!  So stay tuned!

In the mean time – please, please, please tune into Cat Country 98.1 at 5:45 to hear me on the radio, and then watch me tomorrow morning, Monday, December 5th at 8 am on The Rhode Show!  RI channel 12 – and, for those of you not in Little Rhody, you can tune into Foxprovidence.com and watch the show live from your computer!

See ya on the other side :)

The big week!!!

December 2nd, 2011 at 9:44 am by under General Talk, The Rhode Show

MONDAY MORNING I HOST THE SHOW!!! EEEK!

I have a feeling that I’m going to have a restless weekend – but I’m doing everything I can to prepare!  I’ve been practicing with my hair and make-up style tips to make sure I’m ready for the camera

I love my big, feathery hair, and my cat seems to, too :)

Monday morning I’ll be up bright and early to talk about myself and the show on Cat Contry 98.1!  I love to sing, but at 5:45am, I think even I’ll shy away from trying to impress people with my pipes…

Then it’s off to the station where I get to host the show at 8 am!   I’m doing everything I can to get ready and I’m beyond excited!  This is my dream, afterall!  I’ll also get to present my final assignment to you on the air “What I’ll bring to the Rhode Show”!  I can’t wait for you to see – I think I’ve done a good job, and I really hope you all agree!!

After hosting I get to relax, unwind, and have some fun with Mickey and Minnie mouse!  On Wednesday morning, December 7, we’re going skating with them at the Bank of America Pavilion at Kennedy Plaza – since they’ll be in town for the new Disney on Ice show, Mickey and Minnie’s Magical Journey, which will be at the Dunkin Donuts Center from December 28-January 1!

The last time I got to see the magical mouse duo, I was about 6 years old – so we have A LOT of catching up to do!  I also hope they can give me some pointers on how to look graceful on the ice during our routine, because I’m already a little worried I’ll spend most of the morning falling on my face – I hope not!

All of this fun leads up to the big day!  Monday, December 12!!!!! First we’ll be at Cardi’s in the morning to help out with their fantastic Toys for Tots drive!

And then it’s off to the new Jacky’s Waterplace, in Providence, for food, fun, and just that little announcement they’re making – the new Cohost to the Rhode Show ;)

I’m so, so, so excited for the week to come!  Right now I’m off to try and enjoy my weekend, and not get too ahead of myself in all the fun and excitement on my horizon!  Enjoy your weekend, everyone!

I’ll see you Monday morning, December 5th, at 8am on The Rhode Show!!!!!!!!

A Chance to Give Back

November 30th, 2011 at 10:38 pm by under General Talk

I really hope everyone enjoyed my story on The Meeting Street School!

I wanted to let you know about one of the biggest opportunities of the year to give back to Meeting Street – every year they have an annual Telethon.  People involved in the school and people in the community get together to raise awareness and gather donations.  The school relies heavily on the community to support all of their state-of-the-art facilities, learning tools, and equipment.  It is such a worthy place and the support of the community is so appreciated!

There are many other really unique ways to give back to Meeting Street, like donating a brick to their brick garden!  You can explore some of the options on their website.

Meeting Street is one of the most remarkable places I’ve ever gotten to visit.  Hearing stories from students and teachers, I can see how the school changes the lives of so many families.  As you saw in my segment there are so many kids, like Joey, that get to do things every day at Meeting Street that they wouldn’t get to do otherwise.

The teachers and aides there are so wonderful, and everyone works together to create the most fun, exciting, and positive atmosphere!

Be sure to take a look at info on the 2012 Telethon!!

It will take place on Saturday, January 28th from 7pm-11pm!

Until next time!

A Whirlwind Tour of Little Rhody

November 30th, 2011 at 7:30 am by under General Talk, The Rhode Show

My final video assignment is ‘in the can’!

I spent all day Monday spanning the great Ocean State far and wide, with the help of my incredible mom (who is such a trooper), to explore some of my favorite places for you!  I’m not revealing all just yet!  But I’ll give you a preview of one treasured spot that made the cut.

The Crescent Park Carousel in East Providence

Yesterday, it was back to the editing room, where Nick and I made magic with my footage.  I’m so excited about my final product.  I have really been learning as I go – thinking back on what I’ve done that I’ve really liked and things I really wanted to work on or change from my other assignments!  This is quite a learning curve – but I feel like this is the best package I’ve put together yet!

I hope you all feel the same, and I hope you love what I have to bring to the Rhode Show!

You can watch my final assignment air live next Monday, December 5, on the Rhode Show from 8-9.  It will be presented by yours truly – because that’s the day I get to host the show!!!  I can’t wait!

Until next time!
