Atlanta and Chicago Auditions

Idol_LogoIt’s been quite a week on Idol…from “pants on the ground” to (what looked like) a fainting spell.

Let’s start in Hotlanta where the most memorable part of the auditions was at the very end of the 2 hour show.  That’s when 62-year old Larry Platt brought down the house with his “Pants on the Ground” song.  In fact, his video has gone “viral” on the Internet….here’s a link to it: Pants on the Ground.   Platt, in a later interview with the St. Petersburg Times said that his song is all about respect.  He marched with Martin Luther King, Jr. and wants kids to wear a belt, and be respectful.  I think we’ll be hearing a lot more from General Larry Platt.

Atlanta had real talent, too.  Including my favorite from the night, Keia Johnson.   Her voice, her looks and  her voice will get her far, I think.

While in Atlanta, we saw Mary J. Blige as a guest judge.  I thought she didn’t add too much to the show.

On to the Windy City….Chicago, Illinois.   On this night, I liked the guest judge, Shania Twain…she had some good input, although a bit awkward at times.  We need to get a permanent judge in that chair, and we’ll see that when Ellen gets there in February.

I think Chicago’s auditions were highlighted by Amy Lang who appeared to faint before her infamous “boob boxing” routine.  The whole audition was weird, and it is too bad, because she can sort of sing.  If the judges allowed her to sing more seriously, she may have been sent to Hollywood.

My favorite from Chicago was Angela Martin.  Idol veterans will know her.

She’s made it to Hollywood twice in past seasons.  She has a sick son, who is now being well taken care of (because of American Idol).  Her Dad passed away a couple of weeks before her first Hollywood appearance, and she had a warrant out for a traffic violation during her second Hollywood appearance.  This time, I hope nothing bad happens in Angela’s life.  She needs a break, and hopefully her singing carries her through to the end of the season.

If you missed American Idol in Chicago last night, here’s a recap.

Tonight (Wednesday night), Idol hopefuls will be wishing upon a star to make it to Hollywood.  American Idol heads to Orlando, Florida.  You can watch the show tonight on Fox Providence, and we’ll highlight it on the Rhode Show beginning at 8am on Thursday morning.  And of course, I’ll be blogging about it.

Enjoy!
